Spring Break Assignment...

Rest up!
We have been working very hard all year long.  You need to rest your overworked brain cells.  When you return we will have only 11 weeks of fourth grade remaining.  We need your full attention, energy and creativity to continue making this the best year of learning on record.

A few highlights to look forward to:

Colonial American Project  4.12.13:
We will working on creating these presentations in class during the two weeks when you return from spring break.  Over the break you can start to secure your costume, gather resources or make an outline for what you want to accomplish.

T.O.D.
The script will be finalized.  We audition for casting.  Create our masks, costumes and sets.  The best school play ever is under way!

Mathways:
Pace your face math method results for the first week are in.  It has been a massive success.  Look to future posts for video tutorials and presentations that will help parents and future students understand the nature of the project.

Things you can do over the break:

Annoy a sibling.
Clean your room.
Read a good book.
Email your friends or your teacher.
Relax.
Watch the math videos and complete the activities.
Gather items for your C.A.P.
Google docs with friends.
Mathletics for math skill development.
Save money for future teacher bribes.

I have been very proud of the work this class has done over the year and especially the last few weeks.  You deserve a break.  Rest up.  Let me know how you are doing with an email.
I'll see you all soon.

The B.Y.O. Digital Revolution

Class Motto: iAwesome

Our Mission... Diffusing Cyberbullying

308 has taken up a new cause.  We are taking on Cyberbullying in an attempt to diffuse its effects.  By learning coping strategies, sharing experiences and studying the effects of cyberbullying we can defeat this growing problem.  We are developing our own Digital Citizenship Blog to help ourselves and others.

Math Reflections

I think that math today went really well. Overall, it was pretty good but there weren't enough computers for the challenges and videos. I also like the chart a lot. It looks like a really good system.
Lida

All in all, I really like this new way of learning.  This allows me to move at  a pace that I can do, challenging myself, but still doing well.  With the newly made chart Mr. Crame made he can chart our progress and people that are struggling can see who can help them.
Cecily

I thought that the new program was great because nobody is left behind or struggling to keep up.

Pick a Topic for the Colonial America Project

For tomorrow, please be ready to discuss some possible topics for your Colonial America Project.  You may choose a famous pearson, idea, or event from the Colonial American Era. Just remember, the final presentation will end up being a five minute, oral narrative.  So, be sure that your topic has enough research available to support your choice.

The History Fair

Today we visited our future at the 6th and 8th Grade History Fair.
What fanatastic projects!

Digital Citizenship Construction Zone

Today we had an interesting lesson working collaboratively with no verbal communication.  All communications and instructions had to be accomplished using our digital workflow applications enabled through our Google Drive Accounts.  We worked in small groups in the new computer lab to construct group presentations with a focus on Digital Citizenship.  Students had to work with their group of three to five students and create a digital presentation together using internet resources, personal stories and web images.  The only thing is.... they could not talk during the entire creation of the presentation.  They could only manipulate their digital tools to work together...  Tune in to see the final products.

Colonial Research Day One

Hello people of the cyberworld! It's Elizabeth here! Time to talk about what we're doing.
Today, we are starting our colonial project reasearch. We are setting the base line for our project. In other words, we are doing our minimal reasearch. We are reading the book, "If You Lived At The Time of The American Revolution. The book talks about Loyalists and Patriots, how people dressed, and how they lived. To prepare for this, we had to write a "Journal Entry" for a person in the 1700s. Over the course of four weeks, we will be doing reaserch for our project. No. I am not going to tell you what the project is besides that it has to do with Colonial times. Have a great morning.

PLEASE NOTE: Kids of 308, you are NOT allowed to be finding artifacts at this time. Please wait until Mr. Crame says so.

Flipping the Classroom

In the coming days, we will be phasing in a new appraoch to math education.  We are experimenting with a new differentiated approach that is designed to match the pace of math learning to the level of the learner.  We will be using the same common core, math books and curriculum.  However, we will be delivering content and supporting needs in different ways. As we begin to slowly implement different aspects of the program, more information will follow.

For now, the homework is simple.

Follow this link Pearson Successnet or the link to the right of this post to access your digital math homework.  Do the activities assigned to you on your "To Do" list.  These include:  watching the opening video and slide show, taking the interactive quiz and playing some math games.  While you engage in the activities, make note of how the experience goes.  Write down positives and negatives.  Keep track of any tips.  Be prepared to discuss your experience tomorrow.

If you do not have internet access (it's kind of hard to read this if you don't) you will do these activities at school.  Students have been instructed to take their math book home so that they may complete the first lesson of Topic 8 on page 191 #1-15.
This is just the beginning.  Stay tuned and patient as we work through more steps.
Good Luck

What's this?????? More to come...

I just wanted to congratulate you on a job well done.  From my vantage point, I could tell that you all rose to the occasion.  Thank you for showing exactly how much you know and for accepting your challenges confidently.  Now let's move on to bigger and better things.
It's time to prepare the C.olonial A.merica P.roject.
