Barnes and Noble Book Fair Tomorrow

Please support the school by attending the Barnes and Noble Book Fair.  Just mention ERGC Bookfair at checkout to ensure that the school gets the appropriate benefit of the proceeds.  Give the gift of reading this holiday season and benefit the school  at the same time.

I'll be a guest reader at 5:15 PM. From the schedule it looks like I will be opening for the Zumbatomic group.  I'll be sure to launder my leotard. I will also be introducing a new novel to the fourth graders.  A novel that just might become... The Next Big Thing in Fourth Grade.
I hope to see you all there.

Elizabeth Teaches Us How To Upload!

Hello 308! Elizabeth here! Most of us are having trouble uploading videos and picture from our flash drive! Here is how!
To upload:
1. Plug in your flash drive. It is most likely on your left side on a laptop, and on a computer, it is located on the front. REMEMBER: If you are not using a laptop, the slot to insert it is not on your screen. Look at the box by your screen. There should be a beep if you are using a windows computer like this - bum bum

2. Now that your flash drive is in, you should access Finder or your folders. There will be a place on the side with the name of your flash drive. Some of the names are:
Unknown
Unknown Disk
Lexar
Your name
Company Name

3. Once you have acsessed your flash drive (by double clicking), select the file you want to upload. Voila!

On Museum box:
Select what you want to upload. (i.e. Photo, File, Audio, Video) Follow instructions 1-2. Select "Browse" then do step three. Same with Glogster. You did it! No more troubles!

Early American Civilizations

Today we researched Early American Civilizations and discussed the culture, traditions, lifestyles and innovations of the first settlers in America.  We then created a symbol to help us teach others about the most important things that we learned about those civilizations.

Tonight's Homework (11/15/12)

Room 308ers! Here is a reminder for tonight's homework!

The first draft for your letter to the president may be hand written on the paper that you were given or typed.

Good Luck!

Museum Boxing

Today we started sorting our digital artifacts into separate drawers designed to prove the validity of our chosen BPOAT.

Dear Mr. President,

The Fourth Grade is using their powers of persuasion to convince the president to act on issues that directly effect the life of a ten year old.
We will be publishing these professional letters and sending them to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Hopefully, he will listen to us and Mr. Crame will get a hefty raise!

James Defines His BPOAT Criteria

James E.
BPOAT PROJECT
What makes the President best.…
He must have these traits (not necessarily in order):
  1. He must learn how to communicate – this is how to reach out to common or regular people and not just the rich and powerful
  2. Ethical – he must be honest, not corrupt
  3. Skilled negotiator – he must learn to compromise
  4. Role model – good citizen, good partner/spouse, good parent
  5. Intelligent – he must be a problem-solver
  6. Conscious of History – as we learn lots from our past
  7. Uphold the constitution
  8. Makes United States of America first before any other country

Persuading the President

Today we learned about writing persuasive essay. To write a persuasive essay we have to use the 6 traits of writing. A convincing essay captures the reader's attention, doesn't have words like me, I and so on. It also uses research, statistics, and strong voice. We have to be careful what we say because the president won't listen to things that won't benefit the country. I am  doing an essay about the negative effects of homework on student lives.

Happy Decade Day Grace!!!

The B.P.O.A.T. Project Begins

The search for the Best President of All Time has begun with a Presidential App.  The App allows us to basically  research all of the different presidents that have served our country.  It tells about the president's major accomplishments and their impact on the United States.  We will be using this information for our B.O.A.T. project.

Edison Mock Election Results

Barack Obama: 149
Mitt Romney: 21
Jill Stein: 7

Eliana Loved the Steam Tornado

Today we went on a FIELD TRIP!  The first field trip was awesome.  My favorite thing was this steam tornado.  Some people got to go inside it. The water steams and the air rises out of the air holes at the bottom.  There are controls the control the speed and how much steam there was.  There was also a fan on the top of the forty foot tornado to make the steam swirl faster.  This was a cool experience.  The next time I go back, I will remember to go back to that place.

Field Trip Tomorrow

Tomorrow is our field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry.  While we are there, the fourth grade will get a chance to see "50 States in 60 Minutes", a play about our country.
Check out the link: 50 States in 60 Minutes
This will reinforce our discussions about the American Political System and the Election.
Please remember to bring a bagged lunch.  The selected (unlucky) chaperones were notified via kid mail last week.  So, if you are one of our victims, please arrive at the school no later than 8:30 AM to ensure your spot on the luxurious yellow bus.
Thanks
