Legacy 2.0 Art Project

The idea of sacred geometry has guided the construction of fine masterpieces for many centuries.  The fourth grade has been studying Islamic masterpieces as well as the magnificent tile works of Sir Roger Penrose to gain a basic understanding of the symbolic meaning of geometric shapes and ratios.  In a way, we have been gaining deeper understanding of symbolism throughout our entire fourth grade experience.  We have studied symbolism in literature, history, art and even science.  So, Kaleidoclass 308 has been constructed to be the ultimate symbol of our fourth grade experience.  Each shape, artifact, stroke and color contains a particular meaning for each individual student.

The images that comprise Kaleidoclass 308 were created on the iPad.  We used two different apps to create each student’s final image.  The foreground was created using the camera and a kaleidoscope app.  Students were to capture an image of their face along with a small artifact that possesses a particular meaning for that student.  The student also chose the predominant shape of the kaleidoscopic image to match their own personality.  They chose hard geometric patterns or flowing circular patterns to symbolize something about themselves.  The background image serves as a border for the kaleidoscope image.  These backgrounds were created with a second iPad app called iOrnament.  The students created digital paintings using colors and symbols that represent themselves in an artistic manner.  Each color and stroke was to symbolize a part of their personality.

When all of the images come together, it creates a wonderful tapestry that emphasizes the importance of each students’ individuality as well as a harmonious compilation of the group as a whole.  Kaleidoclass 308 is the perfect symbol of the fourth grade experience.

The winning bidder will take home this masterpiece which will be accompanied by a hardcover photo book.  The photo book contains all of the images seen above, an individual portrait of each student as well as a short description of each student’s favorite fourth grade memory.
